This is a simple and cheap product that works. It does not turn off automatically, and I always worry I'lll leave it on and burn it out or burn the house down, but I haven't. I have left it on overnight... oops... but it survived! It doesn't need paper filters, just rinse out the filter supplied. Definitely a thumbs up for this product.

I got my Toastess at Tuesday Morning for about . It's a nice, temporary little coffeemaker except that it's missing a heating plate to keep the mug warm; if you don't get to your coffee immediately, be prepared to reheat it in the microwave. Always add the water first, then the coffee; if done in reverse, the water spout puffs out air and blows the coffee grounds all over the place. Also, after filling the water reservoir, about a tablespoon of water leaks into your mug before you even start brewing. The disc under the mug is removable, so the machine accomodates larger-sized mugs. The permanent filter is a great feature and its saving grace. *UPDATE*: After several months, my coffee started to taste funny, like it had disinfectant in it or something--a strange, chemical taste. I made another cup using my usual coffee and filtered water--still that funky taste! Then I made another using an old standby machine, and the coffee tasted fine. I concluded it was the Toastess and tossed it. 2 stars.

I bought the Toastess 1-cup coffee maker for my Husband and he loves it. I don't drink coffee at all but he does. We never bought a coffee maker before because they usually make 6 or more cups of cofee, which we wouldn't be able to drink. This is a newer, more attractive model of the one I have been using for years. It takes me ten seconds to put in grounds and water and about five seconds to clean out the permanent filter after the coffee is made. If you don't pile grounds to the very top of the filter, it shouldn't leak. Great, easy cup of coffee for one! If I want a second cup, it just needs to cool off a few minutes first. If you can't wait even two seconds for your first cup in the morning (and I used to feel that way), this is not for you - you'll need one with a timer - but I have found I can deal with the three minutes it takes for the machine to make that cup in exchange for the ease of use, easy cleanup, and reliability.

I drink one or two cups of coffee a day and got tired of wasting coffee with my coffee maker. My coffee is fresh, therefore tastes better and has more of coffee's antioxidants (good for the liver). I use very hot water so, in contrast to another reviewer, I don't end up with a cold cup of coffee. It doesn't wobble on the cup and isn't warped because I didn't run it through the dishwasher (thanks for the head's up). I just rinse it out and set it on the same spot everyday (saves space because it is small.) It doesn't take long at all to make a cup of coffee. I buy about ten day's worth of coffee at a time, ground to espresso "fine" grind at the grocery store, and it tastes fresh the whole time. If you want to find out more, check out my public list. Wow this little hunk of plastic really does a great job of making one cup of coffee. I usually get the paper coffee cups with the lids and make it at home myself and I get the big 20oz cups so I can merely adjust the amount of coffee for my insane caffeine fix. I wish however it was made of a type of metal or glass rather than plastic for I feel I am slowly on the road to growing another arm due to the hot water slowly administering plastic chemicals into my body with each delicious cup of coffee. Also let's not fail to mention that professional machines in coffee shops use metal in their filter thingys. I would pay for a metal version of these.

We received this as a Christmas gift and were really excited to try it. I am also a Tassimo owner so I was definitely interested in seeing how the Keurig compared to the Tassimo.

One of the things that I like about this machine is the fact that it is VERY quiet. I'm not too familiar with the other models of the Keurig, but compared to the Tassimo, I must say it is a lot quieter. Setting up the machine took very little time and effort and the Breville Keurig was up and running within 15 minutes of my unpacking it from the box. I have not yet had the chance to use the iced beverage feature but am looking forward to trying it once I get the iced tea k-cups.

There are already a ton of wonderful reviews on the machine itself, so I will concentrate my review more on the pros and cons of this machine as compared to the Tassimo. When I was first trying to decide between the two, there seemed to be few reviews comparing both.

For a coffee drinker, I feel that the Keurig might be more suitable and also more economical as the Tassimo discs cost more than the k-cups. Personally, I like my espresso-based drinks so that was the reason why I first chose the Tassimo. One of the perks of the Keurig though is the fact that there is a much bigger selection of drinks which was why I was interested in trying it out. The Tassimo seems to brew drinks hotter and stronger though. My husband said that the coffees from the Keurig seemed to lack the flavor that the Tassimo coffees had. We haven't tried all of the different varieties of the k-cups, so perhaps we just haven't found one that we like yet. If you are a heavy tea drinker, I would definitely recommend the Keurig since they have a much larger selection of teas and from the ones that I have tried, they taste better than the tea selection that Tassimo offers.

Overall, this machine is a great machine and I hope that I do not have some of the problems that others have mentioned in their reviews. It is a sturdy machine but is aesthetically pleasing at the same time. I was a little worried that this machine would be redundant considering we have a Tassimo but the two machines complement each other very well. Since we don't own a traditional coffeemaker, this is a great addition to the selection that we have from our Tassimo. I would highly recommend this product!

The stainless steel design is beautiful. I've wanted a one cup coffee maker for a while but didn't want to fork out the cash for one. So, Merry Christmas to me!!
Since I am a single woman, I'm usually throwing away a lot of coffee. This machine is perfect for me. It was a bit pricey, but compared to the coffee I would lose with my old drip machine, the price balances out.
It came with a sample coffee box. Some of them I liked, some I didn't. I see in a lot of the reviews about weak coffee. You have to try different ones to get the taste you like. Changing the cup size helps too.
I bought some K cups from amazon, by the way, the best prices...Coffee People seem to make the best product. Perfect cup all the time.
This machine has so many different features I still haven't figured them all out yet. Needless to say..I highly recommend this particular coffee maker.
Yes, it is a little pricey and yes you do have to sample a few different coffees to find the one for you..but it is WELL WORTH IT!! Thanks kids..best thing you ever got me!!!!

I really liked the coffee maker. It was very quiet and it made quality cups of coffee. I like coffee strong and I had no issues with the coffee tasting watery. I liked the look of the stainless steel. The Breville is large but it looked very classy in my kitchen. I would of rated it 5 stars but it shut down after a month of use. I was brewing a 10 oz cup of coffee and it put about 2 oz in my cup and locked up. It started to hum and said it was heating. The menu froze also. I called Breville and they walked me through ways to fix it. I guess this is a common problem. The machine would only brew a couple ounces then freeze up again. Breville would of replaced it but I have to say I am dissapointed in the quality of the machine. I returned it to Amazon for a refund. I am very pleased with the Amazon customer service.

My wife has been looking at this Breville single cup coffee maker for awhile at the Williams-Sanoma store. She hinted that it would be a very nice addition to the kitchen and she really liked the fresh brewed taste for every cup. So I decided to surprise her for Christmas. Big mistake waiting until the last minute as every single Williams-Sanoma store in New England as well as Amazon and other on-line outlets including the BrevilleUSA site were OUT OF STOCK. Well, I guess it was a popular hit with the general public, but I was undeterred. I kept calling and low and behold the two days after Christmas the Maine store received a shipment of 2. I guessI got luck as my persistence paid off. I gave it to my wife fro New Years eve and it was a huge success when our friends joined us in celebration. The Breville coffee was fantastic. However, I do have to agree with some other reviews which state that it has a bright white light emanating from the touch buttons below the blue LED screen. I understand how this could be annoying to some but it didn't seem to bother us or the guests as the coffee was GREAT. I would most certainly recommend this product and it seems that our guest will be looking for one very soon.

I bought this coffeemaker 2 years ago for my office, and it's still going strong. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and reliable. It makes coffee hot (unlike some that make it just warm), and has room enough in the basket to make it good and strong (I usually use 2.5T coffee per mug but could double that). I'm drinking a mug of fresh coffee from it right now. Even the mug is good, as I've had too many travel mugs that didn't seal properly at the lid and would end up dribbling down my chin, but this one is nice and snug and stays put. No muss, no fuss.

The reasons I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 are that 1) if you fill the mug all the way to the top to fill the water basin, you will have spillage (leave about 1/2" space from top and you're fine), and 2) if your mug isn't positioned properly, you may find yourself brewing onto your counter or desk as there's no brew-pause or other switch to indicate to the coffeemaker that the mug isn't positioned right.

I requested this coffeemaker for Christmas to replace my Mr Coffee single serve maker that had finally bit the dust due to plastic parts just breaking apart with the hot water. The best thing about this Black & Decker coffeemaker is that you don't have to use pods and the filter keeps out all but the smallest grounds. The biggest drawback is that you have to put water in it for every cup and you can't use taller cups. I also have a minor issue with water leakage, but I keep a small cup handy to take the place of my cup of coffee and that pretty much takes care of that.
The bottom line is with this coffeemaker I can make a good strong cup of coffee and use much less coffee that I did with the multi-cup coffee maker.

What drove me in getting this make ? frustration, that is in getting yet another 4 Cup Brewer that can't produce a Hot cup of coffee, so far was a Black & Decker and Cuisinart 4-Cup makers, both only made coffee at 163 degs believe me not hot enough, I used to drink it black with sugar now I am back to extra half / half, add that from the refrig one can lose 20 degs, in heat so starting off with a weak heating coffee maker then add cream one is at approx 140 degs ! now it's a re-heat in a microwave that is a extra dirty cup, I use double wall SS 15oz travel cup.

At last I didn't think I would find any coffee maker that made a higher temperature since my favorite Braun 4 Cup Coffee Maker # KF-12, 179 degs, add cold cream no problem out the door.

The stats
This model is very well made, it doesn't slide when pushing the on or off switch, it has no programmable controls, no problem at all with me, ever since I heard of a employee I worked with left his coffee brewer plug-in and his kitchen burnt down, I pull the plug ! it comes with the latest feature to get an advance cup or pause 'n serve cup, a feature I detest, since IMO only a ignorant person would do that because he/she can't wait a few extra mins, till it's all done, this person gets the "extra strong" cup and the rest is diluted left over, I was just reminded (she dose that : ) she likes the pause 'n serve because it's a safety feature she seen what happens at work to a lot of people getting coffee for customers when some one pulls the coffee pot out early and gets a hot splash, ok, ok that's different than some one who just can't wait, ok it's a safety feature : )

I ordered it with a stainless steel carafe, I am personally not a big fan of SS carafes, I like to see what is going on : - )) could only get a "fits all" replacement S.S. for my Braun (brews,179 degs) but with this one I now have a battle ready carafe as a spare when needed, yes I have ordered a HB glass carafe, but speaking about this S.S. carafe this is no doubt the best pouring carafe I ever used, bar-none, it is an issue with most 4 cup carafes believe me, even with my blessed Braun you have to be just right (read level and slow) in pouring, this carafe never leaked a drop of coffee out after pouring many times (start an stopping) in testing fast or slow and all of the coffee but the smallest drop came out of the carafe in the end, I just hope the glass one I ordered will work half as well, hopefully will update.

As for the taste ? I read reviews on this non-commercial model (here) and some stated it brews a little weaker no doubt because of the round filter design instead of the V shape which does make sense, well I am drawn a bit by this, to me it seems that its only a tiniest bit true, but by very little, I make my coffee 6 oz standard coffee cup with one level teaspoon (measuring spoon) for a 4 cup, I use 3 level tablespoons and 1 half tablespoon, I am use to my Braun maker taste, using the HB I have to guess it was a tad lighter tasting but the jury is still out on this, no big deal I will try using 4 level tablespoons if I decide it is a little weaker. One too two "level" measuring tablespoons is the standard for a standard 6 oz cup of coffee. BTW- this S.S. carafe makes / holds 20 oz as dose my Braun or one good travel mug, I don't believe there are any true 6 oz (4) cup, 24 oz makers out there, will see how much difference if any, the glass carafe will hold.

Ok the first brew after the first just water brew run, the temperature was an amazing 184 degs !! finally a maker who makes a cup of hot coffee the right temperature, instead of the typical coffee makers whos legal staff are running the design department.

Pros

A great hot cup of (184 degs) coffee with an automatic shut off, one hour instead of the typical 20 mins ones out there, the timer works and the temperature was 181 degs just before the time of shut off so the warmer keeps up with the brewer temp, over all height is 11", standard store brought 4 cup round filters work perfectly and a nice blue indicating on light, you know when this unit is done brewing by the littlest burst of final steam out the top sides, a little less than 7 minutes. .

Cons (To some)

Round filter basket design, not the V shape # 2 filter type, yes a small amount of liquid drops when after brewing swinging out the basket, either wait longer to open or have a paper towel ready.
Some people will not like the "how too" graphics on the top lid, remember this review is on the "Commercial" product made for motels / hotels, read heavy duty, the cord is a 3 prong 47" long to the end not the typical 18 inches or less cord, these both things are not a problem with me.

The only reason I ordered this unit was, I wanted one that would at least last as long as my Braun (still does work) first one '89 to 2003 (glass carafe broke) second one new 2003 to present (but with a fits-all S.S. carafe) can not get an original glass carafe for this unit, this new unit goes up to my girl friends place.

Just like this one and it has really great reviews like the "Hot coffee" but I was thinking how long will this unit last, that was my driving force so I'll live with the graphs and longer cord, in thinking now yes the difference is most likely just the length of cord and it's 3-prong, (only time will tell ) if you need a longer cord for a coffee maker and don't want to use an (10 amp rated min) extension cord, this model is for you, I have no regrets with this unit and just love buying form Amazon, 9 out of 10 times dose have the best price and shipping, I think their service is great if I ever do find a tiny price difference, I will, way it out, who is doing the selling at the other end ?, is it worth taking a chance ?, in the end it's, no.

This coffee maker died after about three weeks. It overflowed twice while brewing and even after cleaning, still didn't work. It made the coffee hot enough alright--enough to burn my hand when I tried to stop it from overflowing and making a huge mess. It went right into the trash. The carafe is cheap and the heating element made the coffee taste burnt even if left for 10 minutes after brewing (when it worked!). Save yourself the money and try something else!

I am very happy with this coffeemaker, and am able to make my one cup of coffee a day. I use natural colored #1 filters, and that makes cleanup simple. I have 3 complaints, but am happy overall.

1. The dripper continues to drip once the coffee is finished. It drips after you take the cup out (no matter how long the cup is left there) and then it even drips after I take out the used filter to throw away. So, trying to keep away the coffee stains is not really possible, and it makes this a bit messy.

2. You have to fill you coffee cup with water and then pour into the tank. It is almost impossible to do this without spilling a little water down the side of the cup, which leaves you with a wet counter. Also, leaves a little remnant water in the cup.

3. It does not fit any cup taller than the normal cup size. Sometimes I would prefer a slightly larger cup, but it will not fit the cup under the dripper, and it will not hold enough water to fill it up.

I think this product works fine as advertised, though nothing taller than a standard 12oz cup will fit.

However, I sent the first one back after only 30 days because it stopped working. Never turned on again.
Had the second one for about 8 more months. Now it stopped working. Won't turn on anymore. This replacement cost about in shipping so it wasn't FREE. So after and 9 months, no coffee maker again.

If you want to rent this model for + per year, it's fine. If you want something you don't have to buy again and again, it's not.

I bought this coffee maker to replace ours because I can't stand the burn coffee flavor it bothers me if the glass carafe is not perfectly clean and shiny, and I also like how it looks.

Like other reviewers this machine makes a total mess. The lid holds water and drips out each time you use it. Plus the spout is way too close to the backsplash. If you fill a typical thick coffee mug, you don't have enough space to prevent the coffee from running over. Plus the machine continues to drip after you pull the mug away. Heed the warnings and buy something else.

I purchased the B30 for myself. I'm single and drink maybe 1 cup per day, so a full pot of coffee is a waste. I find the Keurig B30 to be handy and it makes a good cup of coffee. I was a bit worried about not having a water tank handy, but I've grown to be ok with it. Pouring the water in lets me know the water is fresh and clean from my pitcher (and that the machine won't have calcification because I use a pitcher).

Pros:

- No cleanup
- Coffee is perfect each time, no worry about too many grinds or too little
- Lots of variety in coffee
- The coffee is economical - you can find it for less than $.50 per serving if you're a thrifty shopper.
- No coffee filters to replace - they are in the k-cups
- No water charcoal filters (this machine has no tank)

Cons

- The coffee is the perfect temperature (hot) fresh from the machine. I wish is it was bit hotter so it would last longer. If you're used to a Starbucks kind of hot, you'll be wanting the coffee hotter than it can do.

- I don't understand Keurig's rationale in making the only real difference in their machines the size of coffee the machine makes. 8oz is perfectly fine, but seriously, they couldn't make the machine handle a normal tall/travel mug without forcing me to upgrade? And even then, the only difference between the B30 and the next model up is 1oz! (B30= 8oz, the next model=9oz). And even then, the machine only adds more water, your coffee is effectively weaker the larger the cup size.

- You can do your own gourmet coffee with the my kcup adapter, but loose leaf tea takes some serious experimentation... grind your tea leaves to an ultra fine powder in a coffee grinder. However, where you would normally do 1 tablespoon of tea loose, it takes 2 tablespoons in the keurig, to compensate for the 0 steeping time. (for me, its just easier to do my tea in the regular fashion. It takes the same amount of time).

- I wish you could use 2 k-cups to make a larger coffee (16oz for example). then again, the machine would need to be taller too.

- I wonder if the coffee would be better if the machine used a slower drip/water pressure.

- I wish it would beep to tell me the coffee is ready.

We bought this for my dad for Christmas, and after using his, I decided to buy one for myself. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but do like the Mocha Latte's from Starbucks. I love the ease of using the mini. I had a coffee pot that I would only use for company, and I always hated cleaning it out. The mini is perfect for me. I never drink more than one cup at a time. I bought the Cafe Mocha K-Cups as that is my favorite drink. I thought it tasted great, but a little weak on the coffee flavor, so I decided to try and make my own. I put light chocolate syrup in the bottom of the mug and filled it with about 1/4 cup of milk and heated it for a minute while I was brewing a light breakfast blend. I used a battery operated milk frother on the milk and syrup and then let the coffee dispense into the milk. I topped off with fat free Rediwhip and a little chocolate syrup on top. Wow! It tastes great and much cheaper than Starbucks. I've also tried the tea K-Cup that came with the brewer and it was good too. I'll probably just use tea bags though and heat the water in the Keurig. Love this little machine!

Let me first say great choice for ur keurig... The price is high for some as it's about fifty cents per cup for many of the K-cups. If u want to save money then buy in bulk and if u shop around u can cut this price in half. If u want or need to save more money, then buy the 15 dollar part that allows u to grind ur own beans and fill w not much more work then k-cups if u are smart and fast. I sometimes u the cups for convenience sake, but usually ground for best results and ur own blending options. Gotta run...hope this helps some people make a decision. Happy New Year! Drew... My son bought us a Senseo Coffee maker about 6 years ago. During that time we used it many times each day and absolutely loved it. It gave out a couple of weeks ago & I immediately went online and bought another. Everyone who comes to our home & has coffee comments on how good it is. My mom has since bought one as well as a friend.
Each cup is made fresh & although the pods cost a little more than ground coffee for conventional makers, I know it equals out with coffee that is no longer poured down the drain because no one drank it. I hope when we finally wear this Senseo out in six or so years that they will still be making them because I plan to use no other!!!

I've had a Senseo for about 4 years and LOVE it! I am the only coffee drinker, so making one cup at a time is great for me! I save lots of money not going to ****bucks; I also think the coffee tastes better.

I purchase the pods for the machine through Amazon.com and have them delivered on a regular basis. I find that is the best price.

My friends love having coffee at my house because it foams up so nicely and is like having a latte' each time. I wouldn't trade my machine for any other type.

I got this coffee maker for Christmas and I looooveeeeee it honestly. The only problem I have with it is that...When you choose the one cup brew, its only 4 ozs. Is it just me or dont most people drink more than 1/2 a cup at a time. Its not really a problem with it because I just choose the two cup brew option, but it didn't make sense to me. I did find this at a local box store for much less than the current listed price, which I found suprising. But, more importantly, I find the construction excellent and the size perfect. I do have the Keurig 5060 Carousel as listed here, but haven't run into any of the problems (broken rings or hard to turn). I find the unit extremely stable and smooth turning.

One thing I will note that may have something to do with the problems people are having: this may be an older model. I only say that because, while looking in the big box store, the shelf had all kinds of these on the shelf, except one of them was a little bigger than all the rest. I looked on the box and the odd ball was a half inch bigger all around, but held the same number of cups. I opted for the smaller of the two. Maybe they changed their design to be more durable and that last bigger carousel was the last in stock at this store. I will tell you the one I have says it is 9.5" high x 7.5" diameter. Hope this helps!

I have two points to add about this machine:

First: It's neat! No messes to clean up in the office, no coffee grounds to dump.

Second: I like deep, rich coffee, and at first I was very disappointed. I tried using two pods, but that can lead to nasty messes. Then, I hit on the answer: use less water! I now fill the water reservoir to about 1/4 inch beneath the maximum line, and with a Senseo Sumatra blend pod, I get a satisfying cup of coffee--but only about 2/3 of a mug. I don't mind the diminished quantity; I can always make another one, and half the time I don't finish a full mug anyway. Simple, cheap, satisfying solution.

Important note to users getting watery coffee - G. Rowat - New York, NY
I've had this brewer for over a year, and for the first few weeks was intensely disappointed in the watered down coffee it was producing. On the top of the machine it says "Fill water tank with COLD water". It took me awhile to realize that THIS is the secret of the machine. Something to do with the heating of the water slows it's drip through the pod. You get a much better cup of coffee if you use water from your refrigerator. It's still not a top of the line device, but it's good for it's price if follow this tip.

I bought (and quickly discarded) the stainless steel version. See my review on it, these machines are NOT pressurized espresso/coffee makers, they are for-crap drip makers not even comparable to a "Mr. Coffee." At least Hamilton does not falsely use "Commercial" but instead hints using "Coffee and Water Dispensing"...they just leave out the one part coffee ten parts water ratio! A "zero-star" product...unless you are into colored water (hint, you can save lots by using one ounce of coffee from any real drip machine and adding water) or you are into wasting your money.

I've had my Two-to-Go coffee maker for five years now. I tend to brew one or two batches of coffee per day, and I have had no trouble with the on/off switch as some reviewers did. I also don't have problems with overflowing/uneven filling of coffee mugs, although I did have that happen when the machine was on an uneven surface.

I didn't know that Cuisinart recommended not putting the mugs in the dishwasher, so I used to do that all the time. Water gets inside (in the insulating layer) and leaks out if you do, but that was a minor inconvenience.

The tops stay on securely and don't leak unless the rubber o-ring is out of place. They can be a little difficult to put on though. Of course, I don't mind having to force them on because it makes me believe that the top is secure.

The simplicity of the machine also makes it really easy to clean.

Overall, I have been very pleased with the quality of the coffee brewed, and the machine pays for itself in a month of not going to a coffee shop. I definitely recommend owning this if you live by yourself. A whole pot of coffee is usually too much for one.

It brews much faster than my old coffee maker but the coffee does not taste any better than my old one made. The filter holder has a swing up handle which is convenient but rather fragile. The "insulated" cups get very hot when filled with coffee so I don't know how long the coffee will stay hot if you take it with you. I drink the coffee at home so it is used rather quickly so I don't care.

I'd never heard of K-cups when I ran into the
Keurig B66 in Costco. At [...]with 90 K-cups,
I figured it was worth a try. As a bit of a coffee snob
(longtime "Peetnik" who finds Starbucks a little too weak)
I'd avoided systems like
Senseo because I figured that they wouldn't brew
coffee as strong as I like it. And that WAS my experience
with the Keurig, too: The sample K-cups were okay,
but--unless brewed on the tiny 5.25 oz setting--
far too weak for my taste. Again, let me stress,
MY personal taste is for coffee stronger than probably
95% of Americans, so take that into account.

Cons: Even after trying the K-cups recommended by
others who say they prefer strong coffee
(Emeril's "Big Easy Bold," Coffee People's "Donut Shop Coffee,"
"Black Tiger" & "Wake Up", Timothy's "Midnight Magic"
& "Rainforest Espresso," and so on, I'm still having
trouble finding a stiff cup of Joe brewed at 7.25 oz.
Also, they haven't developed an environmentally friendly
K-cup yet. Damn! And it's pricey, by home coffee maker standards.

Pros: Clean-up...there really is none! This format is the
fastest, easiest, most trouble-free way to get a quick cup
of decent coffee. I'm in Bachelor Heaven! I brew whenever
I feel like it--'cause it's so easy--and never waste excess coffee.
I will never resort to instant, so this is a wonderful compromise:
It ain't french press coffee, folks, but it's pretty good and ridiculously easy.
Two or more folks can enjoy entirely different coffees at virtually
the same time.
Also, this package does include a device for using your own
coffee: after continuing to audition K-cups, I may eventually
resort to stuffing it with some quality Peet's coffee, here and there.
Also, there's a ton of different types of coffee, cocoa and tea for
this available at decent prices on Amazon
(some people consider ~44 cents a serving expensive, but I'm used to
paying for quality coffee--and not pushing for that many cups out of a pound
--so K-cups at ~$[...] for 48 cups (no tax or shipping) seems modest to ME.

From what I'm told, the B60 is the closest model for comparison...
both have 3 sizes (5.25 oz, 7.25 oz & 9.25 oz). I've heard another
Keurig model offers a 11.25 oz option, but given that I'm having
trouble finding something strong enough at 7.25, 11.25 seems laughable.
I'm using Brita water, for what it's worth, and have only had the
machine for about a month, so I can't yet speak to its durability.
It vibrates a bit and makes a little noise. Neither bothered me,
but I can see that if one person was up, making coffee, a light
sleeper in a nearby room might notice the sound.

Here's a tip: A company called Kenoza[...]
offers single cup purchases. I know the 90 cups that mine came with
sound like a lot, but I immediately realized I needed the strongest
options, so went to Kenoza and got 2 or 3 samples (at 46 cents each)
of many of the strongest ("Extra Bold" is the K-cup jargon)...coffees;
far better than blindly buying 48 cups of something you may hate!

So, in summary, at [...] with 90 K-cups I think it's a freakin'
bargain. Obviously, the more you have to pay, the less spectacular
the deal. Drinkable coffee--no one's going to mistake it for Peet's
in a french press--but it's better than instant and some regular drip
coffee makers. If you like a variety of coffees, and don't care if
it's strong, run, don't walk, to the Keurig...and the lack of clean-up
is AWESOME!

I recently asked for a cup of joe at a friend's house and they showed me their Keurig B60. They let me pick my own flavor and showed me how easy it was to make a cup of coffee with it. I was amazed at how fast this gourmet coffee was ready and how little there was to do for clean up. When I got home I researched it.

The only differences between the B60 and B66 is the color of the machine and quantity of sample K-Cups. The B60 is almost all black with a chrome handle while this B66 has a black body, silver top and chrome handle. The B60 gives you the standard 18 pack K-Cup sample, while the B66 gives you an additional 4 18-packs of samples AND a reusable "My K-Cup". The My K-Cup is a reusable filter you can put your own coffee in if you really want to (kind of defeats the purpose).

After using both the B60 and B66 I can tell you they both work EXACTLY the same. Any review you see for B60 has the same features, benefits, and shortfalls as the B66.

I'm the only coffee drinker in my house so it became a big pain to measure out beans, grind them, empty them from the grinder into the coffee maker, add the water, then wait for the coffee. Plus when you're done you have to discard the used filter / grounds and any left over coffee and clean the carafe and maybe the drip mechanism as well.

THE KEURIG IS ALMOST 100% MAINTENANCE / CLEANING FREE. It has a 48 oz water reservoir so you don't need to refill daily. The cleanup is just taking the used K-Cup and throwing it out. There's no grinding of beans or cleaning necessary and I don't have to spend 1/2 an hour to make 2 cups of coffee.

Some other nice benefits are that it also makes tea, hot cocoa and plain ole hot water (for Ramen or other uses). It also has a cool blue LED and blue lit water tank. The auto-on and off features help you save time and money. The 90 K-Cups the B66 gives you should last a long time and help you decide which blend of coffee(s) you prefer most. The water reservoir is also dishwasher safe.

The cons are few and far between. It is noisy when it starts and finishes making a cup of coffee. The water intake makes a loud vibrating noise when it pumps water in or out of the internal reservoir. This doesn't bother me, my wife, or my infant son. The strength of the 9.25 oz versus the 5.25 ounce cup is diminished. It's just the amount of water being used on the same amount of grounds. So if you want a regular 9.25 oz coffee you should probably use a strong K-Cup. Refill K-Cups are somewhat expensive, but it's WAY less then a gourmet coffee shop. If you look around and use coupons it's a great way to save.

I've had the coffee maker for 3 days now and I couldn't be prouder of my purchase. I look forward to my daily coffee finally!

One last note, if you're going through a carafe or more of coffee a day, you may want to think about whether or not it's a cost savings or worth the time savings for you. But for me, this is the best product I've come across in a while.

We've owned a much earlier (maybe early '90s) version of the Sunbeam Hot Shot, and it has served us well. In fact, the old machine still works; we just wanted to get a new one. Apparently, there were some problems with people accidentally turning the old models on with no water in them. The current model avoids that problem. It's just as fast at heating up water than the classic model, if not faster, and the opening into which you pour the cold water is more conveniently shaped and sized. Curiously, we've looked for these at several stores at which we were sure we'd find one. No luck, though... Just out of curiosity I did an amazon.com search and found that several affiliates had several different versions of the Hot Shot available, in stock, and ready for shipping. We received ours within a few days after placing an order and could not be happier with the product or the service.

I bought this for my Mother to replace an older model which had built up calcium deposits and leaked badly. It works fine, just as well as the older model. But my Mother is nearly blind and pretty feeble. The new location for the "On" switch is a little harder for her to find and it is pretty stiff. She has a difficult time depressing the button to turn it on. The ridges help her locate it, but the location of the appliance on her counter requires her to reach an arm's length so when she depresses the button her finger rests on the ridge around the button and makes it difficult to depress it far enough to turn it on. The older split lip switch was much easier to work for her.

I live north of the border in Canada, so there might be a small difference. I had this for a year now and works great. Easy to use and quick (1 button in front which lights up and turns off when finished). The thermal mug is the only true problem it really does not keep your java warm for to long. So invest in a good thermal cup. It comes with a nylon/plastic filter and a little scoop that measures 1 scoop = 1 cup (2 scoops for the mug).

P.S. If you use this machine often (like me 4 times a day) then I recommend you clean this unit once a month to keep it in optimal performance.

We received this for a gift last Christmas, and one of us uses it quite frequently. Since we both are on different schedules, a full pot of coffee often goes to waste. This is easy to use, the coffee is HOT, and the mug keeps it hot on the commute to work. I use this coffeemaker everyday and it is a sturdy and compact design just like I was looking for. It also brews coffee quickly, about 3 minutes for 15oz. The nylon filter is great, no more emptying paper filters, and does not allow grinds through.

Things I don't like:
>The mug does not keep the coffee warm for very long - 4/5 minutes tops
>Coffee drips behind the mug while brewing and spills - pushing the mug all the way to the back of the maker HELPS with this.

This gets an OK overall review, the biggest frustration for me is the coffee spilling during brewing.

First of all, I have to say I all but stole this thing. Brand new in the box at Linens 'N Things, currently bankrupt and liquidating all stock. At 40% off (the list 0 price), I snagged it for 0 before tax. I could not find it on the web anywhere for much less than 0, before tax & shipping. While I was there, I also snagged a matching Breville BKC100 K-Cup Carousel for . [There's a bunch of wire carousels out there, but this one is of a sturdier plastic, it's more stylish and it matches the coffee maker's silver/stainless finish.] Out the door, both items, just at 9. Then I stopped and bought a box of 18 K-cup (decaf) cartridges for at BBB and headed home.

The machine is sexy and gorgeous and it appears to be built very, very well. In researching I did find complaints about quality build for the black plastic single-serve units branded as Keurig, but I didn't find any such complaints about this puppy! Even the packaging demonstrate manufacturing excellence and thoughtfulness, with small pieces of tape, foam strips, little plastic bags and whatnot ensuring zero damage in transit.

Following the 1-page crystal-clear quick start guide (since the machine has to be run through a one-shot 'priming' process), I went from in-the-box to first cup in under 30 minutes. And it was outstanding.

The taste, speed and convenience is a vast improvement over my five-year-old Melitta Mill-n-Brew (model MEMB10TB, which I reviewed on Amazon and is now out of production) which over time shifted to producing lukewarm coffee, requiring me to pre-heat the thermal carafe with hot water for five minutes in the sink. And that also made the auto-timer, wake-up-to-your-pot-of-coffee, function useless.

This machine comes with, hidden under the lid, a mini-basket system for 'brewing your own grind.' But I can already see the convenience of the K-Cup system, where you just pop the sealed coffee cup into the top ... and clean up is nothing more than tossing the used cup in the trash ... is going to be addictive. But I expect I will be doing a good bit of grinding of my favorite brand. And I am looking forward to only having to rinse out this tiny-teeny-weeny basket as clean up. For the Melitta Mill-and-Brew, that involved cleaning the carafe, the carafe lid (which took grinds), the large basket, the basket lid (which also took grinds) and the inside bottom of the basket/filter hopper (which took grind residue).

And the machine has a little charcoal filter packet and holder that mounts/snaps easily right into the water tank!

The control buttons and the menu are almost 100% intuitive. Flip the power on switch then when the big "brew" button lights up, you are ready to go. The menu is operated by buttons marked menu, up, down and OK. Simple enough. The menu is brief and not deep - set the clock, set the temp, set the cup size, set the auto-on. The auto-on does not actually brew, it just starts the thing up so that the water is heated up and ready to brew at the push of the button. When the machine is in that "go mode," you get your coffee in about 30 seconds.

The LCD Screen is easy to read, backlit in soft/sky blue. And so is the water tank. Apparently, that backlight flashes to let you know when you are low on water! Clever!!

The thing makes a fairly loud racket for about 10 seconds as it pressure-heats the water before the brew ... and again afterwards, apparently 'reloading' for the next cycle. Posters indicate this is normal. It's not any worse than the racket a grinder makes. I bet a thin pad underneath (like a foam mouse pad) will dampen the sound somewhat. And the pre-packaged K-cups are not exactly economical. But, so far, after researching on the web and tinkering with the thing the first day, those are the only two downsides I can find.

Now I just have to add the perfect grinder! It will be Breville as well, the BCG450XL Conical Burr Grinder. The runner up grinder was the KitchenAid ProLine (the one that looks like an hourglass), but there are lots of posts about how it clogs easily, turning the grinds into pure putty and so requires frequent cleaning. And that the beans have to be poked down into the chute with a chopstick or whatnot. The posts for the Breville grinder don't indicate that ... or much of any downside for its grinder at all. And aesthetically it marries to the Breville coffee maker quite well.

There's a whole lotta' upside to this coffee maker. Give it serious consideration!

NB: Two days earlier I also snagged from LNT a Bialetti Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Expresso Maker - the device many Italians keep in their homes to do expresso - for about . And now I've got the Burr Grinder on it's way. Look out - now I've got the MacDaddy coffee setup!

I have tried so far 6 different pod coffee makers and this is the worst of all of them. I've given it away. It's cheaply made/rickety! There is no water reservoir aside from holding exactly the amount of water you need for the cup you are making at that moment. It takes a very long time to heat the water. You cannot preheat the water and just press a button to brew immediately, like the majority of the other makers. Most of the pod makers use a pressurized system to force water through the water through the pod to get maximum flavor. This Mr. Coffee does not. I had to use 2 pods to get a decent taste. I don't have one positive thong to say about this brewer!

I've had ths machine for a while now so I figured I'd do a little "review" on it here... so far, we really really like it! I'm not a morning person so I usually skip the coffee in the morning, although I love it. So that means, we end up going to Starbucks (my kids recognize the Starbucks sign like most recognize the golden arches, okay? The LOVE the vanilla milk there). ANYWAY... I saw this on a show with Martha Stewart last Fall, but really didn't think much about it... didn't really consider getting it or anything... but this thing ROCKS! It was a bit of a pain to set up and go through the cleaning procedure, but it makes a single serving of coffee, lattes, cappucino, hot tea, hot chocolate. YUM! The hot chocolate is AMAZING. The lattes are great (but I'm a latte girl). I run the expresso disc through twice before running the latte milk disc so I can add a little vanilla creamer to it - yummm...

Who needs sleep when you have the Tassimo? :-) It is a little on the loud side, but it froths! Oh, and it takes less than a minute to make a cup of whatever your heart desires. Clean up is a snap.

The only complaint I really have about it is the steam overflow. There's a small hole where the steam/water overflows. It's caught in the little platform where your cup sits... BUT... if you are filling a travel mug, you take the platform out, so the water rushes out under your cup. I just stick a towel under my cup to catch it, but it is annoying considering how easy the rest of the machine is to use.

If you are thinking of buying this for someone, don't do it.

I owned a Tassimo for years, and I only recently was able to replace it (with the awesome KRUPS K-Cup coffee maker).

The reasons why I don't like the Tassimo machine are because it is SUPER LOUD when making coffee, and because the selection of their coffee in stores is absolutely horrible.

The KRUPS machine is far superior because there is a far greater selection of their coffee cups in stores (Target, Stop + Shop, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc) and because it is WHISPER QUIET when it makes coffee. No more waking up your guests when you want a cup of joe!

The design of the KRUPS machine is far superior too. Not only is it dead quiet, but there's no "leaky bottom" - the machine takes the water it needs to get rid of and puts it BACK in the water tank! Awesome! No weird cup of water to empty every single time you make a cup of coffee like Tassimo! AND - there is NO water filter to replace in the KRUPS! The one at the bottom of the water tank in the Tassimo gets dirty quickly and is hard to find and EXPENSIVE to replace!

Get the Krups. Thank me later.

Overall this machine is good. The strengths are in its ability to make regular brewed coffee, and espresso shots. The espresso shots are correctly poured using the auto-mode, turn out with a nice crema, and do have a nice rich flavor like a barrista would serve. The best serving suggestion (in my opinion) is an "Americano" (adding two shots to a mug of hot water). I found the foaming milk discs that come with the cappuchino/latte packs to suffer from a condensed/ powdered milk taste. The "foam" they produce is rather watery-tasting and thin. I just found that I much prefer to use the espresso shots in their own glory. I have not tried the hot chocolate discs, but imagine they would be quite good, as well as the chai tea as well. My only other observation of the machine is that it can take a bit long to warm up , it stays in the yellow lighted "Heating" mode sometimes for a good five minutes before you get the green light use the machine. For someone like myself who likes Americanos and rich brewed coffee, the machine is ideal. If you're looking for authentic Cappucino or lattes, you might want to look elsewhere.

We already owned a Keurig coffee maker (which I have reviewed on Amazon), but my wife bought this unit at a charity event so that we could also make cappuccinos, which our Keurig does not do. For cappuccinos this unit is great. While you can also use it to make regular coffee, if that is going to be your main use, then I would buy a Keurig instead. Here is why.

This unit is much less convenient to use than the Keurig and definitely much noisier if that matters to you. It takes several minutes to make just a single cappuccino while you wait for the water to heat up. More importantly, the T-cups for this unit cost double what Keurig K-cup costs, and the cappuccino T-cups are even more expensive.

Bottom line: If you like cappuccinos, then this machine is worth getting. But if you rarely or never drink cappuccinos, and just want regular coffees, then get a Keurig or else you will be paying double for the same coffee. We use this unit strictly for the cappuccinos (except for the Swiss Hazelnut, which is really good), and our Keurig for everything else.

I love being able to use pods with the holster -- less waste. I use 1 pod on the largest setting (11 oz) and the strength is just right. The wolfgang puck pods seem to produce the best results with the holster -- they're fuller than other pods. But I've also used the Cafe Halo pods and they're fine. The smaller pods like Godiva and Senseo don't work well, though -- not enough fullness in the pod.

I do find that the "foot" that sits on the spring & squeezes the pod up tends to pop out. I've thrown it away a couple of times with the pod and had to fish through the trash to find it. It reattaches pretty easily, but it would be wonderful if I didn't have to bother with it. So now I'm very careful to check for the foot when I remove the pod.

Great idea to be able use your own coffee, save money, and save the planet from being full of K-cups etc . . . but it makes a bad cup of coffee. The design does not allow the water to interact with the center of the pod producing weak coffee, far weaker than a K-cup. When the pod is placed in properly the needle will pierce into the pod and flow into the pod, but unfortunately it flows through the path of least resistance along the top and sides and out of the holster making weak flavorless coffee with poor extraction. I can tear open a freshly brewed pod that has been nicely pierced and the center is nearly dry having had no flow of water. Even when jammed full with 2 pods the coffee is still weak. There is a fatal flaw with this product compared to a real K-cup. In a K-cup the water is injected into the space between the foil and the sealed filter basket forcing all the water to flow over the grounds and then through the filter and out the bottom needle and into the cup. This creates pressure and turbulence in the grounds space which does not occur at all in the holster. I had high hopes but ended up with a disappointing purchase and wasting rather than saving money.

Works as advertised - Pods are now an option for my Keurig! - Backyard Ops - WA
No complaints here - put the pods in, verify they're sitting in there somewhat centered and filling out to the circumference of the holder, snap the top on, load and brew. Sounds a bit more complex than it really is!

There is no comparison. This is 20 bucks or less, and brews GREAT COFFEE that you buy FRESHLY ground from the store (and price) of your choice.

The Keurigs are a hundred bucks and higher, and you have to buy their coffee that's been sitting there for lord knows how long, even though the date says its good until ??

Im sure the Keurigs make good coffee also, but it ain't that much better that would make me pay 5 times the price for a cup of coffee, and 5 times the price for the coffeemaker.

Besides, Keurig might have "200" flavors of coffee, but realistically, how many of those are you really gonna drink?

The neighborhood store of your choice already knows what coffee flavors tastes good, and you can grind it there yourself. As the choices at your store are already Light, Dark, French Roast, Hazelnut, Amaretto, and a few others, what more do you really need. I'll take the B & D DCM18 any day of the week.

I have owned many machines in my life time. Starbucks Barista, Braun, Mr. Coffee, Krups, Black and Decker, Bunn and the list goes on and on. I seem to always be in search of the perfect one! I think I have found it!!
Keurig B70 is very easy to use yet has many options. It's very easy to fill and load the water container and the coffee doesn't get any easier than just having to pop in a gourmet single cup or one you have filled with your favorite coffee and close it. Select your cup size and you are ready to go! Within seconds you have a fresh brewed cup !! I also like that I can have a cup of tea just as easily. My daughter loves ice tea and the Keurig makes her a glass just as easy as making a cup of coffee. With other coffee makers my main complaint has been the pot of remaining coffee will taste bitter and burnt within a couple of hours. I would always end up dumping it. Or the carafe like the Barista has, soon it would be cold and the coffee dumped. With this maker it's one cup at a time and it's the coffee choice you want. It just doesn't get any better than the Keurig!!!!!
I'm so happy I read the reviews and bought one!!!
I think this will be the last coffee maker I buy.

I already owned and was very happy with the B60 (the model one down from this one). I love the coffee and choices available. It doesn't taste instant. Just plain good coffee and very convenient. The only thing I didn't like was the noise it made while making a cup. I get up at 5 which is long before my wife and baby are awake. So making a "loud" cup of coffee at 5 in the morning wasn't always a good idea.

I saw where this one has "quiet brew" technology so I decided to purchase it. I was AMAZED at how much quieter it was. You can barely hear when the machine pumps water to make coffee. It also holds more water so that is a definate plus. So if your looking at different models and can't choose...definately buy this one. You'll be happy you did.

AVOID TOTAL JUNK - R. Berger -
This brewer is total junk, and the manufacturer does not care. This machine is less than 2 weeks old and has quit working. Only draws water when it feels like it. (not very often) Constantly shuts itself off, and when it feels like brewing a cup it takes 10 minutes. I called customer service, and they jerked me around for several calls. They are finally sending out a replacement unit,but it has been over a week and still no unit. (they were much quicker to take my 0 when I bought it) To be honest, i really don't want the replacement.
i think the product and the company are worthless. Do your research and see how many people are having the same problems.

Awesome coffee maker, beats Keurig hands down - Mr. Smarty - Bennington, VT
My parents have had one of these for a few years and we use it every time we go over there. I finally decided to get one and we couldn't be happier. We had a Keurig machine (high end model) at one point in the past and this is far superior. The programming features are a nice addition. It is very well made. I bought a refurbished model and there was one little hiccup with a clogged nozzle, but it has been running fine ever since. We now use a fraction of the coffee we used to use making full pots every time we wanted coffee. The Breville "My K-Cup" seems better than the Keurig ones which used to break all the time. The one we have is still going strong and we used it 4-6 times per day. This model has a nice little storage compartment on top for the filter and scoop, very convenient. I like being able to set the water temperature as well - nice touch. Over all I highly recommend this unit. By far the best coffee maker I have ever had. We had a good experience with the refurbished model and saved quite a bit of money that way.

After significant deliberation between the Tassimo and the other major single serve coffee maker, I chose the Tassimo. Before purchasing the Tassimo, I have never used one but I do have some experience with the other machine. I've had the Bosch Tassimo about 3 weeks and so far I have been very pleased with my decision. However the Tassimo is not without faults. Here's the good and bad:
The Good:
- It makes other things besides just coffee! This was the #1 seller for me, because I personally don't go to a coffee store for plain black coffee... My addiction is to lattes, so the Tassimo defintely satisfies my cravings and saves me each time. It can also make expresso, cappuchcino, hot chocolate and tea.
- It's very fast. Even though making a latte is a 2 step process, it takes no time at all.
- I've already tried a large amount of the drinks avaliable and they are great. The coffees are rich and flavorful and the lattes are foamy and delicious. I know many people complain about the coffee in the "other" machine and I personally do not think that is an issue with the Tassimo.
- It's super easy to use! It doesn't get much easier than popping in a disc and pushing the start button.
- While the selection of drinks is not as vast as the other machine, with the Tassimo you have access to Starbucks coffee and Starbucks is even releasing their lattes in t-disc. So even though the selection of drink choices is smaller, I think the drinks are of much higher quality.
Okay so here's the bad:
- Cost. The Tassimo machine and the t-discs are more expensive. A pack of t-discs will cost you somewhere around depending on where you buy them. The pack may make 16 drinks or if its a latte type drink it may only make 8 drinks. So yes its less expensive than a coffee shop, but still kind of pricey.
- Noisy. Yes it is a very noisy machine. This does not bother me but I could see how many people would not like it.
- Doesn't make drinks as hot as I would like. This issue is a personal preference, but I prefer my coffee to be very hot because I drink it slow and I don't like it to get cold quickly. The Tassimo machine makes the coffee at the exact temp to drink it right now. So while that is great, I would still prefer it to be hotter.
- Can't adjust the drink size. You can add a bit more or less, but really you can't have it fill a huge coffee cup.
- Lack of variety and availability. The other single serve machine has a lot more drink choices and in my area it is much easier to find. I only have 2 places in about a 60 mile radius where I can buy the t-discs. But everyone seems to carry the other cups.

So IMO if you want a machine that can make lattes, cappuccinos and expresso then you should go for the Tassimo. It is more expensive but will still save you money over the coffee shop. But if you just want it to make coffee, then you might want to consider the other machine.

Great coffee, fast! - Xbox LuvR - USA
I've been using this one for about a year now, and it's been fantastic so far! I bought it so I could save money by not going to Starbucks on workdays... I just don't seem to ever have time in the mornings to brew a whole pot of coffee, and when I did I would only take a cup and the rest would go to waste.

So I bought the Tassimo single cup maker and I'm now saving about .00 per workday. This machine is pretty quiet, I haven't had any others, so I can't really compare how quiet it is, but it certainly is not excessively loud by any means.

I looked at the K-cup models prior to buying this Tassimo T-disk model and as far as I can tell they are all pretty comparable, with the key difference for me being the T-disk models have Starbucks coffee, and reportably are quieter (again, I can't attest to that).

Anyway, this is a Bosch machine, so it's definitely a high-end/well made machine. The filters are quite expensive though, and the coffee is more expensive than the K-cup coffee is. All-in-all I love this machine, and look forward to years of money saving.

Fantastic Machine vs Braun - M. Seganti -
I have owned the Braun Tassimo Unit and now the Bosch Tassimo coffee maker.

The Bosch coffee brewer system is quiet and fast, two qualities that the Braun unit cannot lay claim to. The Braun unit was actually capable of vibrating the cup off of the unit, although it never did. Placing the T-Disc into the Bosch immediately lights up the ready light to start brewing. In the Braun unit, you would have to wait 20-30 seconds each time. Not a big deal, but frustrating when your in a hurry.

The Bosch is a much cleaner unit overall. The Braun leaks water by design for some unknown reason into a basin that the cup rests on while brewing. If you have tall mugs/cups and remove the cup holder, water generally fills the bottom and eventually the counter. I'm much happier now that I don't have damp paper towels on standby to sop up the excess water.

The downside to the Bosch is the smallish water container. You will be refilling the unit more often than the Braun. Re-insertion of the water container is also a bit more tricky, as it doesn't always "catch" the correct postion. I find myself pulling the machine out and turning it around to do it every once in a while. Not a big deal, but it could be better. My wife has resorted to filling a large cup and just pouring it in, instead of removing the whole container.

In all fairness, the Braun is somewhat nicer looking and better made (materials). The Bosch is solid enough though, since you don't really pick the machine and move it all that often.

In the end, my choice goes to the Bosch, mainly for the little things like no water leaking and the unit being immediately ready upon installing the T-Disc.

I loved my Cup O Matic - Made hundreds of fantastic cups of coffee over the past 18 months, when it suddenly stopped working. I have been looking for a new unit; however, the SS-1 has been discontinued by Cuisinart. All of the units you'll find online (ranging from .99 - 9.99) are refurbished. Seems the product had a tendency to just stop working, so they took it off the market. I do not feel confident purchasing anything refurbished, so have switched to a single drip cup until a newer unit hits the market (seems the Senseo is also being recalled).

If you're looking for a single serve pod-based unit, and don't mind purchasing a discontinued re-furbished unit, then this is for you.

Pros:
1. Extra large water reservoir.
2. Choice of four cup sizes (from 4oz to 12oz), and strength (bold or regular).
3. Uses pods OR grinds.
4. Takes Melita One:One pods, which come in a variety of great flavours and are inexpensive on Amazon.
5. Easy to use, quick to heat up, great for a couple with differing AM schedules (rather than leave a pot to sit for hours)

Cons:
1. Prone to breakage.
2. Discontinued.
3. Refurbished units only on the market (i.e. ikitchen; yougotadeal; buyitnow64 online vendors).

If you have a broken unit, it's probably still under their 3 year warranty (most were manufactured in 2007). You can send your unit to Cuisinart - although they are no longer refurbishing units, they will 'analyze' your broken machine, and provide you with an online store credit. Just call Cuisinart, tell them about your broken SS-1, and they will provide you with a Service Number. Mail them your machine (at your expense) and wait for your letter telling you what your unit is 'worth.'

Oh, and as for posts regarding the noise of the unit, it never bothered us, probably because we knew delicious coffee was just seconds away :)

I have had pretty good luck with this unit. Does a good job with ground coffee and with pods, although I have had trouble with it properly brewing home-made pods using the Perfect Pod maker (another brand of product, also available on Amazon).

A couple of down points for me - the unit requires that you remove the water tank from the top - a pet peeve of mine. People place these things on their counters, under their cabinets. Why can't manufacturers figure out a way to pull the reservoir out from the SIDE - it is very annoying to have to pull the coffee put out from under the cabinet in order to remove the tank.

Also - this unit is loud. Really quite loud; much louder than it should be for a home unit. I have found that the sound is a bit reduced while running when I remove the drip tray, but it is still too loud. Needs better baffling and parts need to lock together better to remove rattling while brewing. I have seen it rattle so much that the coffee cup slides off the drip tray while brewing. Needs some more design work I think.

Overall, though, I really like the versatility of indicating Pod or grounds, regular or bold, and to indicate the number of ounces to brew. It allows me to make a cup at just the strength I desire. That is a very nice feature.

I've had this machine for over a year - it only works some of the time. Push the brew button and the error beeps - pull out the coffee basket - push it back in (hard) - press brew - error beep over and over again - finally - one time out of 10 it brews coffee - have no clue why it works only sometimes - something is wrong with the basket connections - can't sent it back to Cuisinart - can't even find their address - I'm glad that this was discontinued as I paid full price for it - it's just a pain to use - Don't buy it!! - I only gave it one star as when it finally does make coffee - it's good

This is our third or fourth single cup coffee maker. This one is boxy and makes chugging noises as it "brews." Other than the different appearance and sound-- they all make some noise-- it seems well built, allows for brewing a stronger cup of coffee, and produces up to 12 ounces of hot coffee at a time. I also like that I can use a pod or grounds. It was the only one Consumer Reports gave any kind of decent rating. Overall, we think this model is the best one, yet.

I use these filters in my one-cup coffee maker. Even though that coffee maker has a screen filter, it is not very good. difficult to dispense into cup - mtdk - pennsylvania
I should have returned this BrewStation. It's too late now. I agree with the other reviews that indicate the dispensing problem. The hole is so far back making it impossible to dispense without spilling. The only way I can get most of the coffee into the cup is by bending down, watching it dispense, holding a straight back cup up and back against machine and never pushing dispenser with the cup but with free hand.

Who designed this thing. The spout is located so far back that when using anything other than thin lipped cups you spill coffee on cabinet top. There is no adjustment for this spout either! The LCD light is backlit in blue with black numbers over this. You cannot make out numbers unless you are right in front of unit. The water tank and basket are oddly shaped and awkward to handle. I owned the previous designed unit that leaked and had to trash it. I am trying to find the old design and shelve the new unit.

The dispenser is set to far back and dispenses the coffee to the back of the cup-depending on the thickness of your cup, the majority of the time the coffee ends up behind the cup instead of in it!

Nice! Just got mine a couple of days ago and love it! I also got the refillable My k cup so I can brew my favorite bean coffee and save some $$$. I noticed on the manufacturers web site some consistent comments about problems with the My K cup spewing water outside of the filter and weak coffee which I noticed as well. However in reading the customer solutions, the problem is easily remedied. First of the the soft light grey gasket you see over the insertion needle can be slid down some so that you get a better seal. Secondly a tea drinking customer commented that she wets down the loose tea in her k cup before brewing. By doing this, it gives the tea, or in my case the coffee grounds a chance to hydrated up a little and I get a darker more satisfying flavor from my ground coffee into my cup. The k-cups are great for convenience and when you warranty the unit online, Keurig will give you two free boxes of K-cup coffee when you order four boxes! Nice! Also by joining their coffee club, you get a 10% discount on all k cups orders. So I basically got four 24 pack box of coffee for the price of two and free shipping too. My order came to only for 96 k cups!

Good, but buy the B60 - Iris O. Moon - Florida
I bought a B60 Keurig Coffee Maker a few weeks ago. I liked it so much that I purchased a B40 a few days ago to have in our weekend getaway.

While I like it, it's not nearly the coffee maker as the B60. Granted, it lists for about 25% less, but it is much, much noisier, has only two cup sizes and the water amount dispensed for the two sizes is not consistent. The little rascal practically rattles the toaster off the counter. Also, it doesn't come with the large sampler pack, which is about a - value in itself.

Now, don't get me wrong, you get the same great taste and good temperature and if you truly don't have the extra $$$, buy it. Just don't be surprise is and when you meet a B60 that you wish you'd shelled out the extra .

I've been looking for a single serve coffee maker for a while and am incredibly happy with this purchase. The small cup brewing option is just the right size for the amount I drink in one sitting. The problem for us had been that large brewers would make way more than we could go through at a time, so we were eagerly searching for something that wouldn't waste as much material - and this does the job perfectly. The individual K-cups are nice (the machine came with a sample pack), and we also bought separate K-cups so we could use our own ground coffee beans. I'm good with using either option, but buying my own coffee beans to grind are ultimately cheaper than the pre-packaged K-cups. The machine heats water fast, is easy to use, and perfect for single serve use! I highly recommend it!!!

This coffee maker brews delicious coffee smooth tasting
definately worth the price. I only drink one cup on the weekends and
this is perfect. There is only one downside the compartment to pour the
water is too small to pour with the same cup, I have to use a plastic
cup that can be squeezed to pour the water, other than that I love it!
I recommend it if you are only a cup drinker.

I totally agree with the reviewer who said it's trash but for a different reason. The pod holder is my issue. It's not even the right size/shape to hold the pod snugly. What ends up happening is that the water runs around the pod instead of through it. The coffee it "brews" doesn't even smell like coffee - imagine how it tastes! I tried using two pods to see if that worked and what a mess. Water was all over the place. This thing doesn't even deserve the one star rating I had to give it. I wish Amazon would allow zero stars as a rating.

I really wanted to like this product. It was a great fit on my counter without being in the way. Cuisinart is a good brand and I love the pots and pans that I've had for many years. I learned my lesson!

Please, please save the money and put it toward a brewer that works the way they're it's supposed to!

TRASH - A. Help - San Diego
For those of you who were looking for a Senseo machine alternative (e.g., when the real one is out of stock at Amazon...the reason why I tried this, after a zillion great cups mine finally died): DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK.

This is NOT a pressurized Espresso Machine, it is a miniature drip-style "Mr. Coffee" (except much worse) with 8 oz reservoir that makes colored water...you would do much better plopping a few pods (at considerable expense) into any Mr. Coffee machine, at least it has room for the water to sit with the coffee as it drips out.

There is no "Zero-Star" category...I would have returned it but it was not worth the bother. I cannot understand why anyone would actually like this machine unless they were used to and looking for colored water called "coffee" and did not mind wasting expensive pods in making it. The one I bought now resides in a landfill.

To advertise this machine as a "commercial coffee machine" is worth a lawsuit!

I like a fresh cup of coffee in the morning and since I'm the only one that drinks it, this was perfect. I usually only drink 1 cup a day and this maker is fast and makes just one cup. It doesn't make the full cup on the size I use but it's enough to kick start my day. It was well worth the price and is very quiet. I have another brand in our camper and it sounds like a grinder rather than a coffee maker.

I bought this coffee maker because I was tired of wasting coffee in a regular-size machine when making a single cup for just myself.

I read the reviews and thought I would give it a try, it was a good price for something just for myself and the shipping was efficient. I grind my own beans for coffee and and on my first use I put in about a spoonful and a half for one cup. The reviews were totally correct in saying that the machine does NOT brew an entire cup of coffee even though you pour an entire cup of water into the reservoir. I got about 3/4 of a cup of coffee which can be ok if you use a lot of creamer but I still want the amount of water I pour in to end up in my cup. Another dislike is the on/off button; it doesn't click on or off, you press the button down and the machine starts, like the button is on a spring. I would prefer a more clear cut on or off switch instead of just pushing a button down and having it move back up.

All in all it does what it says. I would just take into account the getting-less-water thing and put a little extra water in the reservoir when filling it up. And also be careful when using ground coffee, other reviewers are correct when they say the grounds expand in the hot water. I didn't have an incident but I can see where a coffee disaster could occur. I give it four stars because of price point, portability and efficiency.
